The Ecopark police have arrested five members of a fraud gang from the Newtown Akankha intersection. The gang is accused of cheating young job seekers in the name of employing airlines. The arrested individuals will be produced in Barasat court on Tuesday.
The fraudulent operation was allegedly run from an office named JHA Shiny Office at the Newtown Akankha Junction. It attracted a regular crowd of boys and girls, all hoping to secure jobs in the airline industry. However, none of them received any employment offers. The police got wind of the scam following a tip-off and subsequently raided the premises to uncover the fake business.
The police, after interrogating the arrested individuals, revealed that the gang targeted job seekers who applied for jobs via social media platforms. The victims were enticed with promises of lucrative positions in reputed companies. This scam not only affected residents of West Bengal but also extended to Bihar, Odisha, and Jharkhand.
Thousands of rupees were extracted from the victims under the guise of training fees and placement assurances. Despite taking the money, no jobs were provided. The Ecopark police station is actively investigating to identify other possible connections within this gang. The arrested individuals will be sent to Barasat court on Tuesday, where the police will request their custody for further interrogation.
