Kolkata metro to be extended till Hooghly's Chuchura? Here's what Railway minister says
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting search operations in connection with a corruption case in ration distribution, involving Jyotipriya Mallick and businessman Barik Biswas. The raids are taking place at multiple locations, including Rajarahat, Barasat, and several addresses in Basirhat. The operations began early in the morning, with officials searching 10 locations.
Barik Biswas, previously linked to gold smuggling, cow smuggling, and coal smuggling cases, was arrested in 2014 for gold smuggling. His name has now surfaced in the ration distribution corruption case. ED officials suspect significant financial misconduct, including the misappropriation of large sums of money and gold.
The ED is investigating investments made by Biswas, particularly in luxurious assets. Two luxury cars, registered under Barik Trust organizations and parked under his residential flat in Rajarhat New Town, are also being searched. The car registration numbers are WB02AT6767 and WB08L9898.
Jyotipriya Mallick, former Minister of West Bengal, was arrested last year in October. In February, CM Mamata Banerjee removed Mallick from the ministerial post.
