On Saturday night, a robbery took place at Kanchantala Shamshankali Mandir under Nadial police station in Kolkata. The miscreants entered the temple by cutting the iron grill and looted jewellery worth lakhs and a significant amount of cash. According to the temple priest, the miscreants threatened him with weapons. The police have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.
The priest was sleeping in the temple when six individuals entered through a small gate around midnight. The robbers wore Bermudas, and T-shirts, and had towels tied over their faces. They beat the priest at gunpoint and took the keys from him.
After gaining access to the keys, the robbers proceeded to loot all the jewellery and money in the temple. Overall, it is estimated that jewellery worth about two to two and a half lakh rupees has been stolen. Additionally, approximately 17 thousand rupees in cash were taken from the donation box.
Local sources report that the priest was terrified and unable to resist due to the threat of weapons. The robbers' swift actions left the temple in a state of shock and chaos. The police are actively investigating the incident to catch the culprits involved in this robbery. They are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and questioning locals for any leads.
