Union Cabinet approves 'One Nation, One Election' Bill: Reports
The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully foiled an infiltration attempt at the India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal's Nadia district. The incident occurred around 2:40 am on Saturday under the Ranghat border post. Following the attempt, BSF officials held a meeting with the Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) and lodged a formal protest.
A.K. Arya, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and spokesperson of BSF, South Bengal Frontier, reported that a soldier from the 68th battalion observed suspicious activity across the Kodalia river, which serves as a natural border. About 10 Bangladeshis were seen entering India through a banana plantation. When challenged, the intruders attacked the soldier with sharp-edged weapons. The soldier first used a stun grenade to deter them but had to fire two rounds as the group continued their advance. The intruders fled back to Bangladesh, taking advantage of the darkness and dense vegetation.
Arya also noted that the troops thwarted attempts to smuggle drugs in the Ranghat and Mamabhagina areas of Nadia. He highlighted that Bangladeshi criminals have increasingly targeted BSF personnel at checkpoints in North 24 Parganas, Murshidabad, and Malda districts. In response, BSF jawans had to employ stun grenades and pump-action guns to protect themselves and maintain security.
Despite several meetings and strong protests lodged with the BGB, Arya lamented the lack of action against the criminals, which seemingly emboldens them to continue their illicit activities along the border. Nonetheless, he affirmed that the BSF remains vigilant and committed to safeguarding the nation's interests.
