In Kajaldihi Baganpara, located in the Kotwali area of Englishbazar block in Malda, 19 families continue to live in darkness despite repeated promises and payments made to the electricity department. The ongoing issue has left residents frustrated and disillusioned with both local leaders and the power department.
Residents have reported paying thousands of rupees for electricity connections, yet the lines have not been installed. They allege that political leaders, who visit during election times, promise to address the issue but fail to deliver once the votes are cast. As a result, families, particularly children, are struggling to study under inadequate lighting, leading to difficulties in reading and potential eye problems.
The area was established several years ago, but electricity connection remains a distant dream. Despite numerous complaints to the power department, residents are still without power. Asim Barui, a BJP member of the Kotwali Gram Panchayat, expressed frustration, stating that despite his efforts to raise the issue with the power department, no action has been taken. He criticized the current government, accusing it of inefficiency and corruption.
On the other hand, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Ashish Kundu dismissed the BJP's claims, asserting that the local administration is working to resolve the issue. He promised to report the matter to the district administration and electricity department to expedite the process.
The Divisional Manager of Malda Electricity Department clarified that the delay is due to land acquisition issues. The department is ready to provide electricity but faces challenges in securing land for the power lines. Once the land issues are resolved, electricity is expected to be connected to the area soon.
