The Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi extended the judicial custody of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal until August 8 in connection with the excise policy case. This extension comes as Kejriwal faces ongoing investigations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding alleged corruption and money laundering related to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.
Kejriwal attended the hearing via video conferencing. During the session, the court also extended the judicial custody of AAP leader Manish Sisodia and BRS leader K Kavitha in connection with a money laundering case linked to the excise policy scam. Both leaders were also present through video conferencing. The court has scheduled further hearings for July 31.
Arvind Kejriwal has been charged under the Prevention of Corruption Act. His judicial custody was previously extended on July 12, just hours after the Supreme Court granted him interim bail. Kejriwal has been in judicial custody related to the ED's case since March 31, which involves allegations of corruption and money laundering during the formulation of the 2021-22 Delhi excise policy that issued licenses to liquor traders.
