Union minister and BJP ally Chirag Paswan has strongly opposed the recent advisory from the Muzaffarnagar police requiring eatery owners to display their names, arguing that it promotes division based on caste and religion. In a statement to PTI editors, Paswan expressed his disapproval, saying, "No, I don't" support the advisory. He emphasized that societal divides should not be reinforced and highlighted that efforts should focus on bridging gaps between the rich and poor, regardless of caste or religion. Paswan criticized casteism and communalism as key factors contributing to the backwardness of his home state Bihar.
Paswan described himself as an advocate against casteism and communalism, noting that such divisions have historically harmed Bihar. He called for a focus on working for all sections of society, including Dalits, backward classes, upper castes, and Muslims. The Muzaffarnagar police have stated that the advisory is intended to prevent confusion among pilgrims and avoid law-and-order issues. The Congress party has condemned the advisory as an assault on India’s culture, while the BJP defends it as a measure to assist fasting Hindus seeking vegetarian options.
