IMD warns of heavy rainfall across India, advises caution in travel

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall across most parts of India, urging citizens to plan their travel cautiously as the weather could cause disruptions from July 12. The monsoon, which has been active to vigorous in regions such as the West Coast, Northwest including the Western Himalayan region, and Central India, is expected to bring above-normal rainfall (>106% of the Long Period Average) throughout the month. Regions like Gujarat, Saurashtra & Kutch, Telangana, and North Interior Karnataka are likely to experience isolated heavy rainfalls between July 12 and 15.

Additionally, the IMD predicts that areas including Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam will see heavy rain in the second half of the week. Fairly widespread, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning is expected over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar, and Northeast India. Heavy rainfall is also anticipated at isolated locations in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Odisha, and Nagaland. The Northwest and Central India regions will experience widespread light to moderate rainfall, with specific areas like Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and East Uttar Pradesh receiving isolated heavy showers.
