Senior Trinamool Congress leader and MP Sougata Roy claimed he received death threats. He claimed that the threats are coming following the arrest of TMC strongman Jayant Singh in connection with the lynching of a mother-son duo in Kamarhatti's Ariadaha.
Roy claimed the caller said he would be shot dead if Jayant Singh, believed to be close to TMC MLA Madan Mitra, was not released. Jayant Singh was also arrested in another case in 2023. He is a habitual offender and has been in the news for shootouts and other cases.
Sougata Roy said, "I received a call from an unknown number. The caller claimed that if I did not ensure the release of Jayant Singh, I would be killed. The caller also threatened to kill me if I came to Ariadaha. This call came twice and the caller also abused me. I later contacted the Barrackpore Police Commissioner and requested him to track the number. I have also complained to the police."
