Guv Bose seeks report from CM Mamata on actions taken against Kolkata CP and DCP

In what is turning out to be a never-ending saga of tussle between Raj Bhawan and West Bengal Government, Governor CV Ananda Bose has sought a report from CM Mamata Banerjee over the actions taken against Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal and DCP Indira Mukherjee.

Both the police officers are under fire as the Ministry Of Home Affairs took disciplinary action against them based on a complaint by Governor Bose. In the complaint, it has been claimed that both Goyal and Mukherjee defamed the Governor's office.

Governor Ananda Bose also sought a report on the recent public flogging incident in Uttar Dinajpur district's Chopra area. A couple was seen getting beaten mercilessly in broad daylight by a person who is allegedly linked with the Trinamool party. Identified as Tajmul Mollah alias JCB, the accused is in police custody.

“The Governor, exercising authority under Article 167 of the Constitution, along with Rule 30 of the Rules of Business for West Bengal framed under Article 166 of the Constitution, has asked the CM to provide details on the steps taken regarding the incident of public flogging of a couple in Chopra and the functioning of kangaroo courts with ineffective police intervention,” an official said.

With Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself accusing the Raj Bhawan and Governor Anada Bose of being unsafe for women, it will be interesting to see what her next step will be, especially on the matter of Home Ministry's disciplinary action.
