Kolkata metro to be extended till Hooghly's Chuchura? Here's what Railway minister says
On Monday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held a press conference where she briefed about various ongoing issues across the state. Amid this, she highlighted a major problem that is being faced by the citizens of Kolkata and its suburbs - Waterlogging.
Slamming the Railway Ministry, the former rail minister said that Indian Railways cut Bengal's pocket but didn't provide a proper drainage solution. Targeting the Kolkata Metro, she claimed that due to the construction of the metro, water has accumulated and is causing waterlogging. She also cautioned that this waterlogging may invite dengue.
Currently, the Airport, Joka to Esplanade, and Green lines (Howrah Madian-Saltlake Sector V) are under construction. Services from Howrah Maidan to Esplanade have started but the line is yet to be connected with the Sealdah -Sector V route. Along with this, Cm Mamata also pointed out that there is a big drainage issue in Howrah.
CM Mamata also heavily descended on the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) over-releasing water. Last year, due to the release of 1 lakh cusec water by the DVC, as many as 7 south Bengal districts faced flood alerts.
