Jay Shah names Rohit Sharma 'captain' for WTC 2025 & Champions Trophy

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah released a video on Sunday celebrating Team India's victory in the T20 World Cup 2024, dedicating the triumph to retiring players Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, along with outgoing coach Rahul Dravid. India clinched the T20 World Cup by defeating South Africa by 7 runs in the final, marking their second win in the tournament's history. Shah expressed his gratitude to Dravid, Sharma, and the entire team, highlighting the end of an era for the three senior players who announced their retirement from T20 internationals post the win.

In the video, Shah confirmed that Rohit Sharma will continue to lead India in Tests and ODIs, expressing confidence in future successes. "I want to dedicate this victory to Rahul Dravid, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. After this victory, the next stage is the 2025 WTC final and the Champions Trophy. I am confident that under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, we will win the WTC Final and the Champions Trophy," Shah stated. This promise echoes his earlier commitment made in Ahmedabad last year, which came true with the T20 World Cup victory.
