Youth dies after alleged beating at South Garia drug rehab, family vandalizes centre in protest
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has blamed Governor Dr. C.V. Anand Bose for the incidents of mob violence in various parts of West Bengal. She made this remark during her meeting with intellectuals on Thursday.
She met the members of the 'Desh Bachao Ganamanch' - an organization formed by the leaders of her party in the state. During a tea meeting with them, Mamata targeted the governor and said that the assembly had made a law to stop mob violence but the governor has not yet signed it and given his consent. Because of this, it could not be implemented.
During this meeting at Saujanya Auditorium in Alipore on Thursday, Mamata said that if this bill had been implemented in the state, perhaps so many incidents would not have happened.
Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen and former minister Purnendu Basu have formed the organization. It includes people from the intellectual class of different fields. However, all are associated with the ruling party.
In 2019, the anti-mass violence bill was passed in the state assembly. It mentioned strict punishment for incidents of mob violence. This bill was sent to the Raj Bhawan for approval. The governor did not sign it then.
Jagdeep Dhankhar was the governor of West Bengal at that time. He alleged that the bill that was passed in the assembly and the one that was sent to the Raj Bhawan were different. An answer was sought from the speaker in this regard.
Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee recently said that he had sent the answers to all the questions related to that bill to the Raj Bhawan. After Dhankhar, La Ganesan became the temporary governor of Bengal for a few days. After this, Governor C.V. Anand Bose came. Since then the bill has been stuck in the Raj Bhavan due to his absence of signature.
