Kolkata metro to be extended till Hooghly's Chuchura? Here's what Railway minister says
Dharna of the two newly-elected TMC MLAs continues on the 6th day at the West Bengal Assembly premises. They are demanding that they be administered the oath of office in the Assembly House rather than at Raj Bhavan, following an invitation from Governor CV Ananda Bose.
Bhagabangola legislator Rayat Hossain Sarkar and Baranagar MLA Sayantika Bandyopadhyay started their protest on June 27 and continued on June 28, July 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Despite being declared winners in the assembly by-polls, they have yet to take the oath and commence their roles as elected representatives. The governor had invited them to take the oath at Raj Bhavan last Wednesday, which they declined, citing procedural norms.
Meanwhile, Bengal Speaker Biman Banerjee has sought President Draupadi Murmu's intervention on this matter. On the other hand, allegations against Governor Bose of sexually harassing a female staff of Raj Bhawan have reached the Supreme Court.
