A memorandum has been submitted by the Bengal BJP at Victoria House accusing electricity provider CESC of excessive increase in electricity bills in April, May, and June. The three BJP councilors of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, Sajal Ghosh, Vijay Ojha, and Meena Devi Purohit, besides North Kolkata BJP president Tamoghna Ghosh, were present.
After submitting the memorandum, Meena Devi Purohit said that CESC officials failed to explain why they sent such high electricity bills in the last 3 months. "The people of Kolkata are completely troubled by the electricity bills sent by them," she said.
"A middle-class person runs his family with great difficulty. How will he pay such a high electricity bill?", Vijay Ojha said. "Not everyone has an AC in their house. But still, a monthly bill of more than Rs 1500 has reached his house. The question is whether lighting a fan and a bulb can raise such a high bill," he added.
Sajal Ghosh made a big allegation against CESC and said that CESC, which gave Rs 600 crore in election donations to Trinamool, is making the common people repay it. "If this billing issue does not stop, the BJP will be forced to launch a big movement in Kolkata", he said.
