Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
The ongoing removal of illegal shops in Newtown has sparked significant unrest. Shop owners clashed with police, halting demolition efforts and engaging in heated arguments. Hawkers amassed on the road in front of Coal Bhawan, prompting a large deployment of Bidhannagar Police to manage the situation.
DC Manav Singla and IC Kallol Ghosh of Newtown police station were on-site to oversee the operation. The NKDA conducted announcements to inform the public.
The crackdown follows Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's stern remarks on Monday at Nabanna, where she criticized the proliferation of illegal shops on footpaths. In response, Bidhannagar Police intensified their actions. On Wednesday afternoon, NKDA officials and Newtown police demolished illegal shops near the Newtown Coal Building.
