Railway cancels several trains in Sealdah division on December 28-29
Four individuals were arrested on Sunday for allegedly vandalizing the office of TMC leader Pintu Debnath, the councillor of ward 1 of Rajpur-Sonarpur Municipality, near Garia station. The incident occurred on Friday night when armed men attacked the office, injuring three of Debnath’s supporters. The arrested individuals, identified as Tukai Josh, Asit Halder, Gopal Debnath, and Tarak Das, were named in the FIR lodged in connection with the vandalism, police said.
Debnath claimed the attackers were frustrated BJP workers who had previously attempted to join the TMC. "We did not entertain their plea to join the TMC, but they participated in our rallies on their own," he said. He also mentioned that two more attackers are still at large. In contrast, state BJP leader Sajal Ghosh suggested the incident was a result of internal TMC conflicts over the construction business in the area. "The statement of the TMC councillor clearly indicates that both the attackers and those attacked belonged to his party," Ghosh stated.
