Days after taking the oath, Prime Minister Narendra Modi left for his first overseas tour after the win to attend the 50th G7 summit. This year's summit will address border issues and climate change among other significant agendas. On June 13, PM Modi departed for Italy to participate in the G7 leaders' summit, set to take place from June 13–15, 2024.
G7 Summit 2024: The 2024 G7 Summit is hosted in Apulia's opulent Borgo Egnazia hotel. Leaders from the United States, Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Britain, and representatives from the European Commission and European Council will be present.
G7 Summit Agenda 2024: Chaired by Italy, the G7 meeting will focus on several key issues. The primary agenda includes the Russia-Ukraine conflict, relationships with developing countries, especially in Africa and the Indo-Pacific, migration issues including food security and energy linkages, and climate change. Additionally, the role of artificial intelligence will be a major discussion point.
Global Leaders to Attend the Summit: Notable leaders attending the summit include Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, US President Joe Biden, and French President Emmanuel Macron. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also expected to join to discuss Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
India's Agenda at the G7 Summit: PM Modi will put forward the significance of the global south and India's development goals. The Modi government at the center once again looks to resolve India's main issue with Canada regarding violence and extremism. Ambassador Vani Rao highlighted the importance of defense and maritime cooperation, focusing on critical technologies and linking defense industries.
