Sonia Gandhi responded to exit poll results on Monday, expressing optimism that the actual outcome of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 will differ significantly from what the pollsters have predicted.
“We have to wait, just wait and see,” Gandhi told PTI when asked about her expectations from the results, which are set to be announced on Tuesday, June 4. She added, "We are very hopeful that our results are completely opposite to what the exit polls are showing."
Most exit polls have indicated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will secure a third consecutive term, with the BJP-led NDA expected to win a substantial majority. Some exit polls suggest the NDA could win over 400 seats, while most predict a tally of over 350, far exceeding the 272 seats needed for a majority.
However, the Congress and other parties in the INDIA bloc have dismissed these exit polls as "fantasy," asserting that the opposition alliance will form the next government. Rahul Gandhi commented on Sunday, referring to the exit polls as “Modi media poll” and describing them as a creation of Modi's fantasy.
