Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal surrendered to Tihar Jail today, following the interim bail granted by the Supreme Court on May 10. The surrender comes a day after the Lok Sabha elections concluded, allowing Kejriwal to campaign amidst ongoing legal battles related to a money laundering case linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.
Arvind Kejriwal, known for his anti-corruption stance, began his political journey as a crusader against corruption. However, his government faced allegations of corruption due to the implementation of a policy to liberalize liquor sales in 2021. This policy was later withdrawn amid a probe that led to the imprisonment of two AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh.
Kejriwal stated his plans to visit a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, pray at a Hanuman temple, and meet party workers and leaders at his party office before surrendering. He assured his supporters, saying, "I will take care of you all in jail. If you are happy, then your Kejriwal will also be happy in jail."
