BJP clinches third consecutive victory in Arunachal Pradesh assembly election

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured a decisive victory in the 2024 Arunachal Pradesh Assembly election, winning 37 out of the 60 available seats, ensuring its third consecutive term in power. The counting of votes is currently underway for 50 of the seats contested in the northeastern state during the Lok Sabha polls on April 19. Notably, the BJP had already won 10 seats unopposed prior to the elections, with Chief Minister Pema Khandu being one of those unchallenged victors. Election Commission officials confirmed the BJP's continued dominance in the state, where they had previously won 41 seats in the 2019 elections.

Of the 50 contested seats, the BJP has already secured 27 and is leading in eight others. Meanwhile, the National People's Party (NPP) has claimed three seats and is leading in an additional three. The People's Party of Arunachal and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) have each won two and one seat, respectively. The Indian National Congress and an Independent candidate are leading in one seat each, showcasing a diverse political landscape in the state despite the BJP's stronghold.
