Jammu and Kashmir hit by 5.8 magnitude earthquake, no casualties reported
Sourav Ganguly expressing his support for Gautam Gambhir as the next head coach of the Indian cricket team states Gambhir would be an excellent choice to replace the current coach, Rahul Dravid.
"If he has applied, Gambhir will be a good coach," Ganguly stated at an event in Kolkata. Recently, Gambhir led the Kolkata Knight Riders to their third Indian Premier League trophy after a ten-year gap, demonstrating his coaching capabilities. Gambhir's recent long interaction with BCCI secretary, Jay Shah post KKR's victory has further fueled the rumour.
While there have been discussions about considering Chennai Super Kings' Stephen Fleming for the role, Ganguly favors an Indian coach. Gambhir is expected to replace Dravid, who began his tenure in December 2021. Dravid has decided not to seek an extension, ending his term after the T20 World Cup in the USA and Caribbean next month.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has received over 3,000 applications for the head coach position, although many are from fake names, including former cricketers and politicians.
