Amidst the election fervor, Kolkata is all set for its final electoral lap today. With 1.6 crore voters expected to cast their votes, all eyes are on the sky as weather forecasts predict rain. Following six hours of continuous rains on Thursday-Friday night, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of a 50% chance of rain on Saturday. Despite the forecasts, the city anticipates downpours in the late evening hours.
Meanwhile, the overall voter turnout in the last phases as per the ECI data is 63.36%. The first phase, on April 19, witnessed a turnout of 66.14 per cent, followed by the second phase on April 26 with a turnout of 66.71 per cent. The subsequent phases saw varying levels of participation, with the fourth phase recording a notable increase to 69.16 per cent. However, the fifth phase on May 20 witnessed a slightly lower turnout of 62.2 per cent compared to 2019 figures.
