Delhi experienced extreme heat on Wednesday as temperatures soared to a historic high of 52.3 degrees Celsius, surpassing all previous records. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Mungeshpur, a Delhi suburb, recorded this unprecedented temperature, marking the first time the city has witnessed such extreme heat. Narela, another locality in northwest Delhi, recorded a scorching temperature of 47.9 degrees Celsius at 2:30 pm.
The IMD's forecast paints a grim picture for the coming days, with predictions of severe heat wave conditions across several states. Authorities have issued warnings about the risk of heat-related illnesses, emphasizing the need for extreme caution, particularly for vulnerable individuals. While New Delhi grapples with the heat, efforts to conserve water have been urged, with authorities emphasizing the importance of collective responsibility in reducing wasteful water usage. Relief from the intense heat wave is expected to gradually emerge in Northwest and Central India by May 30, with temperatures forecasted to gradually decrease over the next few days.
