Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) celebrated their triumphant third title victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad. Team owner Shah Rukh Khan expressed his affection by kissing team mentor Gautam Gambhir on the forehead.
Gambhir’s return to the KKR fold was pivotal for the team’s success this season. The celebrations began at Chepauk, the same ground where KKR won their maiden title under Gambhir's leadership in 2012.
During the celebrations, Gambhir was seen greeting BCCI secretary Jay Shah, sparking speculations about his potential future as India's head coach. Reports suggest Gambhir is the frontrunner to replace Rahul Dravid, whose tenure ends after the 2024 T20 World Cup in June. With Dravid not reapplying, BCCI has called for applicants for the position, with the contract running until the end of the 2027 ODI World Cup. Gambhir, interested in the role, is expected to meet BCCI officials in Chennai after the IPL final.
