The relentless heatwave gripping parts of India has turned deadly, with 15 fatalities reported across Rajasthan, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh. In Rajasthan alone, nine lives were claimed by the scorching temperatures, with fatalities recorded in districts such as Balotra, Jalore, and Jaisalmer. The sweltering conditions have forced the Meteorological Department to issue a red alert, advising residents to take precautionary measures to avoid heat-related illnesses.
Amidst the heatwave chaos, tragedy struck Kerala as seven individuals succumbed to floods and lightning triggered by pre-monsoon rains. The severity of the situation is underscored by the soaring temperatures, with some areas in western Rajasthan experiencing readings nearing 50 degrees Celsius.
Radhe Shyam Sharma, Director of the Jaipur Meteorological Office, offered grim prospects, stating that relief from the heatwave is unlikely in the near future. With the heatwave showing no signs of relenting, authorities have issued red alerts for several states, including Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Western Uttar Pradesh, urging residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.
