Kolkata metro to be extended till Hooghly's Chuchura? Here's what Railway minister says
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s recent statements about some monks allegedly supporting the BJP have ignited a new political controversy. Her remarks have drawn widespread criticism from BJP leaders and the sadhu community. In recent development, the sadhu community has decided to take it to streets on 24th May in Kolkata.
On Saturday, Banerjee told a rally in Hooghly: “I have great respect for monks but not all of them are the same... I have heard about Kartick Maharaj (of BSS) who said he will not allow any TMC election agent in polling booths. I do not consider him a monk because he is directly involved in politics….”
At another poll rally on Monday, clarifying on her earlier statement, Banerjee said she was not against any institution but criticised one or two persons for indulging in political activities despite being monks.
Further CM claimed that the Bharat Sevashram Sangha monk from Murshidabad was working for the BJP and accused him of instigating people when clashes between two groups happened at Rejinagar a few weeks ago.
Reacting to the mounting attacks from Bengal CM, Bharat Sevashram Sangha monk, Kartick Maharaj on Monday sent her a legal notice demanding an apology within 48 hours.
