Paresh Rawal advocates penalties for not voting in Lok Sabha elections

As voting for the fifth phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections began, veteran actor Paresh Rawal cast his vote in Mumbai on Monday morning. Rawal, an early voter, emphasized the importance of civic participation. Speaking to the media, he stated, "Then you will say, government doesn't do this, doesn't do that... If you will not vote today, then you will be responsible, not the government." He suggested penalties for those who abstain from voting, including increased taxes or other punishments.

Several Bollywood celebrities, including Akshay Kumar, Shahid Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, Rajkumar Rao, and Janhvi Kapoor, also voted in Mumbai, showing their commitment to the democratic process. Elections are underway in six Mumbai constituencies and other regions in Maharashtra, part of the critical fifth phase of the seven-phase electoral process. The 2024 Lok Sabha elections, running from April 19 to June 1, will have results declared on June 4. Extensive security measures have been implemented to ensure a smooth voting experience for the over 8.95 crore eligible voters.
