In Purulia district of West Bengal when a truck collided with multiple vehicles on the state highway, resulting in the death of five people and serious injuries to six others. Eyewitnesses reported that the truck, carrying concrete for road construction, initially struck a motorcycle, leading to the immediate death of the rider. As chaos ensued and locals attempted to apprehend the driver, the truck driver attempted to flee but ended up hitting a three-wheeler and pedestrians in the process. Police have arrested the driver, and the incident has sparked anger among locals, leading to a blockade of the state highway.
The devastating incident follows another tragedy in Nadia, West Bengal, where 18 people lost their lives in a collision involving a truck parked on the roadside in Phulbari of Hanskhali police station area. The collision occurred as a group of over 20 individuals were en route to Nabadwip cremation ground with a deceased person from Bagda in North 24 Parganas. While five individuals sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital, the cause of the accident is under investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that dense fog and high vehicle speed may have contributed to the collision.
