Potato traders to go on strike if Bengal doesn’t allow selling to other states
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a public gathering on May 12 at Jalebiya Maidan in Bhatpara, in support of BJP candidate Arjun Singh from Barrackpore Center. However, controversy arose as a part of Bhatpara Municipality ground was plowed with a tractor ahead of the event. Barrackpore Police Commissioner Alok Rajoria, accompanied by senior officials, inspected the grounds on Tuesday and instructed Singh to ensure the area is leveled to avoid any inconvenience to the gathering crowd.
Jagdal MLA Somnath Shyam defended the plowing, stating it was done for beautification purposes to ensure uniform ground levels. However, the municipality claimed ignorance about the Prime Minister's planned meeting at the grounds. Upon learning of the event, the municipality swiftly commenced efforts to equalize the plowed portion, indicating a scramble to prepare the venue amidst the unfolding situation.
