Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar criticized former CM Lalu Prasad Yadav on Saturday, accusing him of favoring his family members in politics. Addressing a rally in Katihar, the JD(U) leader mentioned that Lalu Prasad Yadav made his wife the Chief Minister of Bihar after he had to resign.
“Nowadays, (promoting) his children,” Nitish said. Paida toh bahut kar diye…Itna jyada paida karna chahiye kisi ko, baal-bachcha? (Produced too many…Should anyone produce so many children),” he questioned. “Now they have involved their daughters, two sons, and everyone. They keep saying something or other everywhere. People forget the old things, hence, I want to tell everyone that no work used to get done. People could not get out, there were no roads or education,” he added.
Lalu Prasad's two daughters, Misa Bharti and Rohini Acharya, are contesting in the parliamentary elections. RJD has nominated Misa Bharti for the Pataliputra seat and Rohini Acharya for the Saran Lok Sabha seat. Lalu Prasad's younger son, Tejashwi Yadav, served as the deputy chief minister in the previous Nitish-led government, while his older son, Tej Pratap Yadav, was in charge of the environment portfolio. Tejashwi Yadav is now the primary opponent of Nitish Kumar, who has held power in Bihar for almost 19 years.
