DIG removed over violence mishandling in Murshidabad

The Election Commission took decisive action on Monday, directing the removal of Murshidabad's Deputy Inspector General (DIG) amid accusations of failure to contain violent outbreaks in the district promptly. The DIG, identified as Mukesh, is alleged to have inadequately addressed two separate incidents of violence involving weapons and explosives, prompting the Commission's intervention.

Sources reveal that Mukesh, an IPS officer holding the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP), served as the DIG of Murshidabad range and is now facing removal from the position. The Election Commission's move comes in the wake of stringent warnings against election-related violence, emphasizing accountability for all stakeholders. Notably, the district witnessed unrest during Eid, with rival factions of the Trinamool Congress purportedly engaging in bomb attacks. The constituency, hosting prominent figures like Senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Choudhary, former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan from TMC, and Gauri Shankar Ghosh from BJP, underscores the significance of the ongoing political dynamics.
