The Congress party in Himachal Pradesh has confirmed the name of Pratibha Singh's son, Vikramaditya Singh, for the upcoming Mandi Lok Sabha election. This decision comes as the party believes a young face should lead the charge this time. If finalized, Vikramaditya will contest against BJP's Kangana Ranaut, setting the stage for a heated electoral battle. The young leader recently made headlines by tendering his resignation, leading to a political crisis in Himachal Pradesh, although he later withdrew it and was reportedly pacified by the Congress leadership.
"We discussed the shortlisted names with Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi present. From Mandi, Vikramaditya's name has been finalized as everyone supported the idea of a young candidate," stated Pratibha Singh, the Himachal Pradesh Congress chief. However, an official announcement from the party is yet to be made.
35-year-old Vikramaditya Singh is a cabinet minister in Himachal Pradesh.
Son of Pratibha Singh and former CM Virbhadra Singh, Vikramaditya became the titular kind of the erstwhile princely state of Bushahr (town in Shimla) after his father's death.
He joined politics in 2013 and won his first election in 2017 -- from Shimla Rural.
