Abbas Ansari, a detained MLA from Uttar Pradesh, has been granted permission by the Supreme Court to participate in the 'fatiha' or special prayers ceremony for his father, Mukhtar Ansari, who passed away on March 28. The apex court's decision allows Abbas Ansari to attend the ritual scheduled for April 10, despite being in judicial custody for a criminal case. Justice Surya Kant, while dictating the order, emphasized the necessity of Abbas Ansari's presence at the ceremony and directed authorities to ensure his safe travel from Kasganj jail to his hometown under police custody.
The Supreme Court's directive mandates that Abbas Ansari be escorted with adequate security measures and commence his journey by April 10. Additionally, the court extended the permission for Abbas Ansari to meet his family on April 11th and 12th, even if there are no further rituals scheduled after April 10th. Notably, police authorities have been instructed to conduct thorough security checks on visitors attending the family meetings to prevent any security breaches.
