Shahjahan Sheikh, a Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader from Sandeshkhali in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district, has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with allegations of atrocities on women and an attack on ED officials. Sheikh's arrest by the ED comes after a prolonged interrogation in jail, where he was reportedly uncooperative. The ED's investigation into corruption cases unearthed allegations against Sheikh, leading to his arrest despite being in custody earlier.
Sheikh's legal proceedings have taken a tumultuous turn, with the Calcutta High Court ordering his transfer to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) before his subsequent arrest by the ED. The ED's investigation into corruption cases, including ration corruption and alleged involvement in fish import-export corruption, led to the discovery of assets worth Rs 32 crore 30 lakh linked to Sheikh. Despite ED's attempts to interrogate him in Basirhat jail, Sheikh's arrest signifies ongoing legal complexities surrounding his case.
