Amidst the pre-election tension, a fierce confrontation erupted between soldiers and Naxalites in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, leaving six insurgents dead. Confirmed by SP Jitendra Kumar Yadav, the clash transpired under the jurisdiction of Basaguda police station, where a joint security force team comprising Korba 210, 205, CRPF 229 battalion, and DRG launched an operation. Reports indicate heavy gunfire exchange between soldiers and Naxalites within the forest area, resulting in the casualties among the rebel ranks.
The violent incident comes on the heels of a prior Naxalite assault during the Holi festival in Basaguda, Bijapur district, where three villagers fell victim to axe attacks perpetrated by unidentified assailants. Initially attributed to Naxalite activity by law enforcement, the assault claimed the lives of Chandraya Modiam, Ashok Bhandari, and Karam Ramesh, with one villager succumbing to injuries in hospital care. Police reports detail a brutal assault sequence where the villagers were repeatedly targeted with axes upon the intruders' arrival, signaling a concerning escalation in regional tensions.
