The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has unveiled its candidates for the upcoming by-elections in West Bengal, to be held concurrently with the Lok Sabha elections. Sajal Ghosh, a former Trinamool leader who recently switched allegiance to the Padma camp, has been nominated by the BJP as its candidate for the Baranagar assembly seat. Ghosh, previously associated with the Trinamool Congress, is set to contest against former Trinamool MLA Tapas Roy's vacated seat. Additionally, BJP announced Bhaskar Sarkar as its candidate for the Bhagbangola assembly constituency in Murshidabad, following the recent demise of Trinamool leader Idrish Ali, the former MLA of Bhagbangola.
Sajal Ghosh's nomination marks a significant political development in West Bengal, particularly amidst the ongoing electoral landscape. The announcement of Bhaskar Sarkar's candidacy for Bhagbangola reflects the BJP's strategy to fill vacant seats and strengthen its position in the state. These nominations come in the backdrop of evolving political dynamics, with former Trinamool leaders switching alliances, setting the stage for a competitive electoral contest in the upcoming by-elections.
