MMIC Tarak Singh, in response to the Gardenreach incident, issued a stark warning regarding the proliferation of illegal constructions in Kolkata. Singh stated that "numerous unauthorized structures have been erected in the city, with ongoing construction at various sites. If this trend continues unchecked, Kolkata might witness a disaster even more catastrophic than the Gardenreach tragedy."
"Such activities do not occur without the knowledge of local counselors, Mayor can only give instructions," he added.
The recent incident in Gardenreach saw a five-storey building collapse in the Azhar Molla Bagan area, resulting in the tragic loss of 10 lives. After extensive rescue efforts spanning 57 hours, operations were eventually called off.
