Mamata calls urgent meeting at Nabanna tomorrow, key administrative officials to attend
In a bid to uphold the integrity of the electoral process, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued orders for the removal of Home Secretaries in six states, namely Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.
Additionally, officials from the General Administrative Department in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh have also been removed. This decision comes as part of the Commission's resolve to ensure a level playing field and prevent any potential compromise of impartiality during the electoral process.
The Commission's meeting, chaired by CEC Rajiv Kumar and attended by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, led to the removal of officials holding dual charges in the office of Chief Ministers, which could potentially compromise neutrality, particularly in matters related to law and order and the deployment of forces.
Furthermore, the Election Commission has also taken action to remove the Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal due to previous instances of being removed from active election management duties. This decisive step underscores the Commission's commitment to conducting elections that are free, fair, and transparent, ensuring the highest standards of integrity and impartiality are upheld throughout the electoral process.
