The weather has once again taken a turn in Bengal. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain with thunderstorm in eight districts of the state on Sunday. Orange alert has been issued in eight southern districts including Kolkata on Sunday. Alipore Meteorological Department has said that there may be rain and thunder in Kolkata on Sunday afternoon or evening. There are also chances of rain at some places.
Apart from Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Hooghly, East Midnapore, West Midnapore and Jhargram are expected to receive rain along with winds at a speed of 50 to 60 km per hour. In view of this, an alert has been issued. In other districts of South Bengal, Purulia, Bankura, West and East Burdwan, Birbhum, Murshidabad and Nadia, winds can blow at a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour. However, hailstorm is not expected in these districts. Still a yellow alert has been issued.
Dry weather is expected to continue in the districts of North Bengal. Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, North and South Dinajpur, Malda may receive light rain on Wednesday and Thursday. According to the Meteorological Office, a large amount of water vapor is entering the state from over the Bay of Bengal. That is why favorable conditions for rain have arisen even before the beginning of Chaitra. The temperature will also start falling in different parts of the state from Monday. The minimum temperature in Kolkata was recorded at 23 degrees Celsius on Sunday, which is one degree below normal.
