In response to mounting criticism and public outcry, the West Bengal administration has transferred the Officer-in-Charge of Sandeshkhali Police Station, Biswajit Sapui.
The decision follows widespread condemnation of the West Bengal Police's perceived inaction regarding complaints of oppression and sexual harassment against women by certain local Trinamool Congress leaders in Sandeshkhali.
While the state administration officially describes the transfer as routine, many are skeptical, considering Biswajit Sapui's reassignment just three months into his tenure at Sandeshkhali Police Station.
Biswajit Sapui has been relocated to Basirhat Police Station, with Gopal Sarkar stepping in to assume the role.
This marks the second significant transfer within Sandeshkhali Police amidst ongoing protests by local women against sexual harassment and violence targeting them.
