Speeding bus mows down pedestrian at MG Road more, driver flee
In a significant development, the Calcutta High Court has transferred the case related to the attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Sandeshkhali on January 5 to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Last week, suspended TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan was arrested from a residence in Minakhan, North 24 Parganas district, in connection with the said attack. Supratim Sarkar, the additional director general of police (ADG) south Bengal, confirmed to reporters that the TMC leader's arrest is linked to the January 5 incident.
Both the Enforcement Directorate and the West Bengal government had filed separate appeals, challenging a single bench order from January 17. This order had directed the formation of a joint Special Investigation Team (SIT) comprising the CBI and state police to investigate the mob attack on ED officials.
However, the High Court has rejected the order to form an SIT.
