Youth dies after alleged beating at South Garia drug rehab, family vandalizes centre in protest
A tragic explosion rocked the Durgapur Steel Plant, resulting in injuries to five individuals, with three reported to be in critical condition. The incident occurred during routine operations when water leakage from converter number 2 of the plant's basic oxygen furnace led to a sudden explosion, engulfing the area in dust.
At the time of the accident, a mix of contract and permanent workers totaling five individuals were present, three of whom sustained burns. Prompt medical attention was provided, with the critically injured workers admitted to a private hospital in Durgapur, while the remaining victims received treatment at the DSP Main Hospital. Disturbingly, reports suggest that water leakage from the converter had been observed for three days prior to the incident, signaling a potential lapse in maintenance protocols.
Despite attempts to address the situation, no remedial action was taken, raising questions about safety protocols at the plant. Following the accident, DSP's ED (Works) arrived at the scene, prompting protests from workers demanding accountability and improved safety measures.
