Kumar Shahani, a stalwart of Indian parallel cinema renowned for directing acclaimed films like "Maya Darpan" and "Char Adhyay," breathed his last around 11 pm in Kolkata due to age-related health issues. The filmmaker's close friend and collaborator, actor Mita Vashisht, confirmed his demise, expressing profound sorrow over the loss. Shahani's significant contributions to Indian cinema, marked by his distinctive storytelling and thematic depth, leave behind a lasting legacy in the world of art and filmmaking.

Born in Larkana, Sindh, Shahani's cinematic journey began at the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India, where he honed his craft alongside luminaries like Mani Kaul.
