Union Cabinet approves 'One Nation, One Election' Bill: Reports
A Delhi court has granted regular bail to Gautam Kumar, accused of raping a woman he met on the Bumble Dating App under the pretext of marriage. Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Sunil Gupta approved bail upon furnishing a bond of Rupees one lakh and two sureties, noting that the charge sheet was filed while the accused was on interim bail for his sister's wedding, and there was no indication of witness tampering.
The case, lodged on December 10, 2023, at Police Station Saket, saw the accused arrested on December 16, 2023, and subsequently granted interim bail until Wednesday. Despite the complainant's assertions of unfulfilled marriage promises, the court emphasized consensual nature of the relationship, highlighting the absence of coercion in the dating app encounter. Meanwhile, the defense argued against the "Love Jihad" angle, asserting that the relationship was initiated without any promise of marriage.
The complainant's opposition to the bail application centered on allegations of rape and the serious nature of the charges, while the prosecution maintained the gravity of the accusations and the completion of investigations supporting a prima facie case.
