The Calcutta High Court issued a stay on Section 144 in the Sandeshkhali area for the next seven days, granting relief to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, who sought permission to visit the region.
The High Court's decision allows Adhikari to proceed with his visit to Sandeshkhali, provided he submits the proposed route within the next three hours and provides an undertaking to the local police, pledging not to deliver any public speeches intended to incite the public during his visit.
To maintain order and ensure the safety of the visit, the state government is mandated to deploy adequate security personnel in the area.
In addition to the stay on Section 144, the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Basirhat has been directed to submit a comprehensive report within seven days, detailing the number of criminal cases registered in connection with the Sandeshkhali incident.
