In a significant development, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar ruled on February 15 that the faction led by Ajit Pawar is the authentic Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The decision comes as a notable setback for veteran leader Sharad Pawar and his supporters, further deepening the internal rift within the NCP.
“I hold that the Ajit Pawar faction enjoys an overwhelming majority within the NCP,” Narwekar declared.
The Speaker dismissed petitions seeking the disqualification of MLAs affiliated with Ajit Pawar's faction, emphasizing that they hold an overwhelming majority within the state legislature, portraying the ongoing discord as intra-party dissent rather than a departure from the party.
