Sweeping security measures for farmer march trigger chaos in Delhi

Parts of Delhi experienced significant traffic disruptions during the morning rush hour as sweeping security measures were implemented to deter a march by farmers from Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh towards the Capital. The heightened security arrangements, aimed at preventing the farmers' movement, led to extensive traffic snarls as authorities enforced prohibitory orders and closed multiple metro station gates.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) reported restrictions at eight metro stations, with the closure of multiple gates to manage passenger flow. Long queues and confusion at stations added to the chaos, particularly during office hours. Social media platforms were flooded with complaints from commuters about the disproportionate measures taken. Meanwhile, the Delhi Police installed barricades on major roads, including at the Singhu flyover, to regulate traffic movement amid the impending protest by farmers.

Farmers from Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh are launching a mega protest in the national capital of Delhi to call for a legal guarantee of MSP. The ‘Delhi Chalo’ march was announced last week to urge the Centre to accept their demands.
