In a recent development, a Delhi court has granted a three-day interim bail to senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia, allowing him to attend his niece's wedding. Sisodia, the former deputy chief minister of Delhi, who is currently under arrest in connection with the alleged excise policy 'scam,' has been provided relief by Special judge M K Nagpal from February 13 to February 15. This decision comes amidst ongoing investigations by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) into corruption and money laundering cases respectively, related to the now-defunct Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.
Sisodia's arrest by the CBI on February 26 last year over alleged corruption in the formulation and execution of the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 led to subsequent action by the ED, which arrested him on March 9 from Tihar jail on related money laundering charges. Earlier this month, the same judge bench had permitted Sisodia to visit his ailing wife once a week while in custody, highlighting the compassionate grounds behind the recent bail extension for familial obligations, amidst concerns over his wife's health condition, described as "very poor" due to her long-standing battle with multiple sclerosis.
