As Pakistan gears up for its General Elections 2024, the Ministry of Interior has taken a significant step by suspending internet services across the country, citing security concerns on the election day. The move aims to prevent potential disturbances and maintain a secure voting environment. Simultaneously, a massive deployment of 650,000 security forces has been implemented across various regions to ensure the safety of voters and the integrity of the electoral process.
On Thursday, a substantial portion of Pakistan's population, nearly 13 crore individuals, will exercise their democratic right to vote. The election encompasses not only the selection of the country's next government but also the legislatures of its four provinces. However, concerns arise regarding the predicted low voter turnout due to the incarceration of the popular leader and former Prime Minister, Imran Khan.
The voting window is set from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (03:00 to 12:00 GMT), with provisions allowing those already in line at 5 p.m. to cast their ballots. Authorities retain the discretion to extend voting hours if violence or disruptions occur at certain polling stations.
